On April 15, 2013, double bombings near the finish line of the Boston Marathon killed 3 people and injured at least 264. The bombs exploded 12 seconds apart near the marathon’s finish line on Boylston Street.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was convicted on all 30 counts for the Boston bombing that left 17 people without limbs. In some cases, people lost both legs. They will suffer for the rest of their lives and many of the younger victims have had their hopes and dreams bludgeoned into oblivion.
This week the penalty phase of Tsarnaev’s trial has been underway. Many of the counts upon which he’s been convicted carried life sentences. His high priced anti-death penalty defense lawyer (whose services the public has to pay for) has been advocating for life imprisonment without the possibility of parole and some people believe that’s the right sentence.
Except for the fact that we are a civilized society and it will never happen, here’s what is the correct sentence for this pathetic excuse of a human being: 3 limbs amputated AND life in prison until he dies a slow agonizing death.
No, it won’t make his victims whole again but it would force Tsarnaev to gain some perspective as to the harm and anguish his actions have caused to others.
